Devotional Speakers for Spring 2020 Semester

BYU-Pathway Worldwide monthly devotionals complement the student experience by fostering greater faith and discipleship in Jesus Christ. Students across the world have been inspired by these uplifting messages.

This semester, devotionals will feature the following speakers and General Authorities of the Church:

  • April 28: President Clark G. Gilbert, BYU-Pathway Worldwide
  • May 26: Elder Carlos A. Godoy, Presidency of the Seventy
  • June 16: J.D. Griffith, Vice President of Administration, BYU-Pathway Worldwide
  • July 14: Elder Dieter F. Uchtdorf, Quorum of the Twelve Apostles

Devotionals typically last 5–7 minutes and can be viewed at 4:00 p.m. (MDT/UTC-6) on the BYU-Pathway Facebook page and later on the BYU-Pathway speeches page . PathwayConnect students responsible for leading the lesson in their weekly gathering that week will facilitate a discussion around topics shared in the devotional. All participants are invited to watch, share, and discuss these inspiring messages.

About the Devotional Speakers

Clark G. Gilbert
Clark G. Gilbert is the president of BYU-Pathway Worldwide and was recently called as an Area Seventy. President Gilbert previously served as president of BYU-Idaho and as president and CEO of Deseret News and Deseret Digital Media. He earned a master’s degree in East Asian studies from Stanford University and a doctorate in business administration from Harvard University. President Gilbert and his wife, Christine, are the parents of eight children.

Carlos A. Godoy
Elder Carlos A. Godoy is in the Presidency of the Seventy and currently supervises the Brazil, Central America, South America Northwest, and Utah areas. Elder Godoy was baptized at age 16 and has since served in numerous callings, including elders quorum president, bishop, mission president, and Area Seventy. He holds a bachelor’s degree in economics and political science and a master’s degree in organizational behavior. Elder Godoy and his wife, Mônica, are the parents of four children.

J.D. Griffith
J.D. Griffith is the vice president of administration at BYU-Pathway Worldwide. He began working for BYU-Idaho in 2003 before transitioning to be managing director of Pathway in 2009. J.D. earned a bachelor’s degree in business management and an MBA from Utah State University, as well as a PhD in business administration and organizational leadership from North Central University. He and his wife, Tasha, are the parents of five children.

Dieter F. Uchtdorf
Elder Dieter F. Uchtdorf, of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, was born in Czechoslovakia and joined the Church at age seven in Germany. Elder Uchtdorf studied engineering and worked as a pilot for over 35 years, including six years as a fighter pilot in the German Air Force. Elder Uchtdorf was sustained as a member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles in October 2004 and served as second counselor in the First Presidency from 2008–2018. He and his wife, Harriet, are the parents of two children.
